Several U.S. organizations have launched a campaign named ‘’Medical Aid for Cuba’’ to raise funds for hospitals in Cuba, which has been ravaged by shortages amid an economic crisis brought about in part by an intensification of U.S. sanctions. Last February they shipped $200.000 worth of medical supplies and half a million painkillers to the island.
‘’Today we’re sending 13 plus pallets to Cuba’’, says Carl.
‘’This is the first shipment of what we hope to be many. It’s over 200.000$ worth of medical aid and half a million painkiller pills’’, says Mark.
’We come here today with organizations like “LAHOC”, “Not just tourists’’, “Global Health Partners’’, “Operation Rainbow’’ and ‘’Pan American Medical Association’’, adds Uriel.
‘’I’m just doing my own little bit here to support Cuba’’, says Mike.
‘’Last summer we were contacted by the main hospital in Havana, because of the embargo and other restrictions, they could not get their hands on any sutures. If there is a country that desperately needs medical supplies right now is Cuba for sure’’, claimed Carl.
‘’This represents a show of solidarity from people in American Labour and the American Left with the people of Cuba’’, says Cal.
‘’It's important, I think, to help. To help out Cuba, to lift the blockade. But I just think it's immoral to deny medical care, to deny food to a whole island of people’’, says Sean.
